African Wild Dogs are a rare species currently on the red endangered list and I’ve been extremely fortunate to see them in South Africa, Botswana and Zambia during my safari travels over the years.
So, what can I tell you about them?
> They have the most incredible big round ears that look like satellite dishes on their head and have beautiful patterning and colours in their fur.
> They have phenomenal stamina and cover vast distances at pace. Once they start running, it can be hard to keep up with them.
> Their pack mentality and teamwork is admirable which makes their hunting skills second to none and utterly brutal (I’ll spare the details I’ve heard from eyewitness accounts).
> They play and chase each other just like your average domestic dog which is great fun to watch.
This artwork perfectly captures some of their behaviour and spirit and certainly makes me want to have a good, satisfying stretch when I view it.
Perhaps it will provide perfect inspiration for the client wanting to include a bit more yoga into their life . . . is it calling out to you?
I especially loved creating the grassy textures as they remind me so much of the amazing smells experienced on safari.
