‘Kitso’ means ‘Wisdom’ in Tswana.
I took the reference photo for this artwork when I was in Botswana and knew I wanted him to have a name in the local language. It took me a while to research a name that both sounded right and had the correct sentiment.
This is perhaps one of the only pieces I’ve made where the name/title has come before I’ve even started and it enabled me to ensure he really embodied his character as I brought him to life.
